Assistant Diesel Mechanic

Our Client is seeking a dedicated assistant mechanic to support their team with vehicle and equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate will assist in routine servicing, diagnostics, and minor repairs while maintaining a clean and organised workspace. Responsibilities include helping with inspections, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and keeping accurate maintenance records.

Key responsibilities

Vehicle and equipment maintenance

• Assist in inspecting and diagnosing mechanical issues.
• Support in routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
• Help with tire replacements, rotations, and balancing.
• Clean and maintain tools and workstations.

Repairs and diagnostics

• Help troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
• Assist in replacing or repairing parts like brakes, belts, hoses, and gaskets.
• Work with senior mechanics to complete engine overhauls or major repairs (currently outsourced)

Documentation and reporting

• Assist in maintaining records of repairs and maintenance work.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.

Qualifications and skills:

• Basic knowledge of mechanical tools and repair techniques.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
• Physical stamina to lift heavy parts and work in various conditions.

Experience and education:

• Preferred experience and education:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certificate or diploma in mechanics (preferred but not required).
• Five years of experience in a mechanical workshop or similar environment is a plus.
