The record currently sits at 74 hours 03 minutes, set by the UK earlier this year.
"This has been a year in the planning and it will be both a personal sense of achievement and great exposure for the station, should we break this record," said Caige, who sees this as the Comrades Marathon for radio. "This is a great opportunity to follow my passion and another form of recognition for the greatest job in the world.
"I grew up obsessed with Guinness World Records; its annual record book was always first on my Christmas wish list and I want to obtain a 'title' that will be a representation of my achievements," said Clarke, a BA Sociology student at the University of Pretoria. "The amount of exposure will help me to broaden my network of connections and open up various avenues to improve as an individual and advance in the radio industry."
Caige and Clarke have spent the last month putting together a jam packed programme that will include a celebration around St Patrick's Day, a tie in with Idols, chats with past station alumni and visits by some of South Africa's leading bands and musicians at the studio in Hatfield Square, Pretoria.
"Thanks to Bioplus and its array of products, I have no doubt that our team will not only break the record but obliterate it," said Loutjie van der Merwe, station manager.
The station recently extended its broadcasting footprint to 1 kW in order to reach Pretoria and the greater Johannesburg areas.
