Modise returns to AM Live

It has been confirmed: Tim Modise returns to present SAfm's flagship morning show, AM Live, on SABC News, as from the beginning of November 2008. The announcement was made by the SABC late on Friday afternoon, 17 October 2008.

Modise will present AM Live - which broadcasts from 6am weekday mornings - as from 1 November, together with Tsepiso Makwetla. He will also take the reins of the After Eight Debate, which flights between 8 - 9am, weekdays. Xolani Gwala - another recent returnee - will move to PM Live.

Modise, who began his broadcasting career at the then-Channel 702 in 1980, has worked in a wide range of media, including Radio Bop, Metro FM, Carte Blanche and SABC 2. Earlier in the decade, he played a key role in establishing SAfm as one of the primary news and information sources for South Africans.

He left the SABC in 2002 to pursue other broadcasting interests, eventually joining the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee.

“Internationally and domestically there are massive changes underway, the global financial market meltdown, the changing international political landscape and recent developments in South African politics - these are some of the reasons for my return to journalism,” Modise said.

“I chose to return to the SABC, because it is ideally placed to provide the full story of these developments, and I share the corporation's commitment to providing balanced, contextualised, critical and in-depth coverage,” he added.
