Climate change theme for PRISA conference

'Climate of Change - Public Relations and the Environment' is the theme for the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa's (PRISA) 2011 conference. Its president, Samantha Louis APR, says it will build on the momentum gained from serious debate around the issue of environmental sustainability, looking at the topic from the perspective of the broad range of communication practitioners represented by PRISA.

"Now more than ever, communicators need to move away from 'greenwashing' towards strategic, practical and committed community involvement projects that will have long term benefits for their clients and companies," she says.

"We are already seeing environmental sustainability become a major talking point for government and the private sector alike and that is why we have chosen this theme. We are developing a programme that addresses the communication challenges and opportunities related to the issue."

Presentations and workshops will unpack the latest trends observed in the communication sphere, including new technologies, social media, measurement and evaluation developments such as the Barcelona Declaration and Stockholm Accord, public relations professionalism, ethics and more.

The conference will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, Durban, 13-14 June 2011. Registration is now open and there are early bird discounts available until 21 April 2011. To register, go to www.prisa.co.za.
