The Times' latest blogger: Ryk Neethling from the Olympics

To ensure the South African public truly get the inside scoop on the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games over the next few weeks, The Times has commissioned South African swimming hero Ryk Neethling to blog from the event, supported by a team of journalists.

Seasoned Sunday Times sports journalist, David Isaacson, has covered the last two games in Sydney and Athens and will blog about the games for the first time. Maggie Li, a Chicago journalist, has recently joined The Times Online as a multimedia journalist and is reporting with passionate multimedia sports reporter, Carly Weinberg.

“We really wanted to pull out all the stops and provide our readers with expert insight and who better than Ryk. He is not only an Olympic gold medallist but also participated in the last three Olympics for South Africa,” says Ray Hartley, editor of The Times.

“The way individuals consume and interact with news has changed and that is why we provide a rich and interactive multimedia offering that can be followed online. This new media era has also opened up opportunities for someone like Ryk to interact with the public and provide commentary, which is fantastic.”

Go to http://blogs.thetimes.co.za/ryk/ to read about all Neethling's adventures, from how his training is going to the disappointment over the relay team not winning a medal this morning, Monday, 11 August 2008.

To keep up to speed on all the latest happenings, readers can also interact with a variety of news, views and content on the Olympics from video to audio and photographs in a single easy-to-navigate special report at www.thetimes.co.za/SpecialReports/Olympics2008/Flash/default.htm.

There is a news and info section with all the latest news articles, which will constantly be updated as the results of the games roll out. The latest photos, audio and video clips are available from the ‘watch and listen' tab, which takes one to http://multimedia.thetimes.co.za.
