Reddy to judge Design Lions

LONDON: A higher than anticipated number of entries in the newly launched Design Lions competition has prompted the appointment of three more judges, including Nathan Reddy of Grid Worldwide Branding & Design, the organisers of the International Advertising Festival announced yesterday, Wednesday, 23 April 2008.

While entries are still being processed, the Design category is showing strong growth, with submissions much higher than expected. As a result, new Design jury members are needed in order to judge the entries during the Cannes Lions Festival in June.

“As with any innovation at Cannes, we consulted carefully with the industry before launching the Design Lions, and we expected a lot of support. But our expectations have been exceeded, and we are delighted with the interest shown in the new competition. This is an amazing result for a launch of a new category,” commented Philip Thomas, festival CEO.

The three extra newly appointed Design Lions judges are:

  • Sudhir Sharma, founding director and principal designer, Elephant Strategy + Design, India
  • Nathan Reddy, CEO and executive creative director, Grid Worldwide Branding & Design, South Africa
  • I-Min Pao, president, PPGroup, Taiwan

As a consequence of the high number of competing Design entries, as well as a dramatic increase in submissions for Promo Lions, which was launched just three years ago, Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies will now be awarded in both the Design and Promo competitions.

The 55th International Advertising Festival will be held 15 - 21 June 2008 in Cannes, France. For more information, go to www.canneslions.com.
