    The post office department assistant manager will support the efficient functioning of all postal and dispatch activities within the organisation. This role involves supervising clerical staff, coordinating daily postal operations, maintaining compliance with postal regulations, and improving dispatch workflows to ensure timely and accurate mail and package handling. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, highly organised, and capable of leading a small team while liaising with third-party courier services and internal departments.

    Key responsibilities:
    • Oversee and coordinate all incoming and outgoing post for the company.
    • Supervise postal clerks and ensure that all dispatch procedures are followed accurately.
    • Manage and track high-volume bulk mail and courier services through SAPO and third-party providers.
    • Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports of daily postal activity and delivery statuses.
    • Authorise and monitor postage usage, account balances, and payment reconciliations.
    • Collaborate with internal departments (sales, admin, customer service) to meet dispatch timelines.
    • Resolve escalated delivery issues, including tracking delays and lost parcels.
    • Compile weekly and monthly performance reports on postal volumes, delivery success rates, and departmental KPIs.
    • Monitor inventory of packaging and mailing supplies; ensure timely replenishment.
    • Ensure department operations align with internal policies and national postal regulations.
    Qualifications and skills:
    Qualifications:
    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • Relevant post office/logistics/dispatch certification or training (advantageous)
    Skills:
    • Excellent organisational, administrative, and leadership abilities
    • Computer literate (Excel, Outlook, tracking systems)
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Analytical and detail-oriented
    • Familiarity with postal regulations, dispatch processes, and courier platforms
    Experience:
    • 2-3 years in a postal/logistics environment with supervisory responsibilities
    • Experience dealing with SAPO and/or courier companies
    • Exposure to dispatch coordination or team management (advantageous)
    Key competencies:
    • Strong sense of responsibility and integrity
    • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities
    • Process-driven with excellent time management
    • Team player who can motivate and guide junior staff
    • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
    Working conditions:
    • Office-based in Rosebank
    • Monday to Friday, 08:00 AM - 05:00 PM
    • Occasional overtime may be required during peak dispatch periods
