Elalini for Arts Alive Student Festival

This year's line up at the annual Arts Alive Student Film Festival, which features international and South African student film screenings, exhibitions, workshops and the Young Filmmakers Awards, includes Student Oscar-winning film Elalini and SA short films Escudo, Vimba, Pinky Pinky and Holiday, which have just been officially selected for both the New York and Los Angeles Independent Festivals.

The international line-up includes the top student films produced this year from countries such as Bulgaria, Norway, Belgium, Israel, Sweden, Spain, Poland and Australia.

Elalini is a story about Nomakaya, a disillusioned policewoman haunted by the memory of a boy's death, who must decide between the city or her rural home when the care of her own child is thrown into question.

The Arts Alive Student Film Festival is organised in collaboration with the Johannesburg Metropolitan, Arts Alive, AFDA and Emzantsi Entertainment. The major vision of the festival and market is to increase trade opportunities and development in the film and broadcast industry.

The festival will be held at The Bassline in Newtown 14 - 16 September 2006.
