The peoples' concert

The Peoples Celebration Concert, which promises the biggest line-up of Hip Hop heavyweights and R&B superstars ever brought to SA, is being held in celebration of Premier Foods becoming the biggest 100% black-owned company in the country.

A collaboration by Premier Foods, Metro FM, Good Hope FM, SABC1 and Big Concerts, the concert takes place on 27 April at Johannesburg Stadium, then heads to the ABSA Stadium in Durban on 29 April and on to the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town, on 1 May 2006.

Set to become an annual festival, the continuous ten-hour world-class event is the first of its kind in the country and has a star-studded line-up that includes Hip Hop icon Snoop Dogg, dancehall star Sean Paul, singing sensation Mario, Caribbean Queen Rihanna, and the hottest acts SA has to offer.

Premier Foods Chairperson, Mxolisi Zwane, explains: "We recognise that Premier Foods has prospered as a result of the loyalty shown to our brands like Iwisa, Blue Ribbon and Snowflake and we feel it's time we gave our consumers something back in return, hence we have chosen the community theme of Izandla Ziya Gezana - hands wash each other.

"We are committed to this idea and will be reaching out to consumers and communities with both our products and programs to ensure dignity and economic empowerment for all. We foresee a time when everybody in the country will contribute to the weaving of the vibrant tapestry of South African life and the concert is our way of dedicating ourselves to this ideal."

Although only 137 000 lucky people will get to attend the concerts, SABC 1 will be filming them for broadcast, reaching 23 million people across South Africa.

The Premier Foods brands are offering R500 000 in peoples' prizes. There are R200 000 worth of free tickets to the concerts and fans stand the chance to win R100 000 in cash at each of the concerts.
