Barney Simon rocks TUKS FM

Well known promoter of local and international alternative, punk, metal and rock music, Barney Simon - the legend of international rock - has joined Tuks Fm to host a weekly slot every Monday from 7 to 10pm.

Tuks Fm station manager Richard Perry says the station has always been a proud and loyal supporter of alternative music: "Simon is one of those legends that we all grew up with and his support for the local music industry has been unequalled.

"We are looking forward to this new era for Tuks FM as I believe this partnership is the
best thing to hit South African radio in years. The Night Zoo is and has always been the definitive sound in rock music - and now it's only on Tuks FM"

Simon says that one of his dreams when he started as a DJ in radio was to work for a college or campus radio station in the future.: "College radio in America is massive and influences all commercial top 40 radio stations. They broke the Pixies, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Fugazi,Black Flag, R.E.M. and Nirvana to mention a few bands, and I always have a laugh when I hear those bands on trendy commercial stations in South
Africa.

"Tuks FM is the music leader in South Africa, and their DJs eat, sleep, drink and talk music. Their playlist is dynamic, diverse, cutting-edge and the future of music, which is good news for South African bands as they will get exposure. Tuks Fm is the home of South African rock and I plan to make it bigger and better."

Simon said that his show is also good news for independent and major record companies, as the station will support their rock and alternative products: "People are bored and sick and tired of listening to radio stations because they all sound the same and play the same songs over and over again.
