SABC sponsors Grahamstown festival

The SABC is once again a media partner for the annual South Africa's Grahamstown National Arts Festival, a 10-day explosion of theatre, music, dance, art exhibitions, street performances, taking place in Grahahamstown, Eastern Cape, 28 June – 8 July 2007. The corporation will showcase its various brands as it travels through the city on the SABC-branded bus.

Kaizer Kganyago, SABC spokeperson, says, “The corporation is a point of shared experience where our history occurs – the keeper of the South African story – past, present and future. It therefore goes without saying that the SABC has a critical role to play in inspiring and building our nation and restoring our culture and human dignity, hence our renewed partnership with the Grahamstown National Arts Festival.”

“The Grahamstown Arts Festival reflects the broad canvas of South African culture with a focus on ordinary people and a South African narrative, beyond the urban and contemporary milieu”.

The Grahamstown National Arts Festival started in 1974 as a project of the Grahamstown Foundation and has since evolved into one of the leading arts festivals in southern Africa. Over 120 000 supporters flock annually to the picturesque university town, home to Rhodes University, to experience non-stop theatre, live music, a vibrant street and night life, buskers, walking tours, lectures and plenty of craft shopping.
