Nominate journos for Nat Nakasa Award for Media Integrity

Nominations for the 2011 Nat Nakasa Award for Media Integrity are now open and close for entries on Friday 3 June 2011. The award is open to all journalists publishing in a community/national newspaper, magazine or an electronic medium (including online publishers), provided he or she has not previously won this award.

This annual award recognises any media practitioner - journalist, editor, manager or owner - who has:

  • Shown integrity and reported fearlessly;
  • Displayed a commitment to serve the people of South Africa;
  • Tenaciously striven to maintain a publication or other medium despite insurmountable obstacles;
  • Resisted any censorship;
  • Shown courage in making information available to the SA public;
  • Any combination of the above

Named for Nat Nakasa, a prominent journalist and writer who died in exile, the competition is run by the Print Media SA Awards Committee, SANEF and the Nieman Society of Southern Africa. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in Cape Town in July 2011.
