The 2015 annual event collected 3,500 books and, after weeks of sorting, was distributed to the following charities.
these young schoolchildren from home to school. One can only achieve this if we ‘make school a better place’, be it by improving sanitation, upgrading school kitchens and building classrooms, libraries and science laboratories. Alphabet Soup assisted in the donation of books to Touch Africa’s Libraries, which are constructed out of refurbished shipping containers and are fitted with air conditioning, wooden laminated floors, beautiful shelving, a blackboard, tables and chairs, as well as +2,500 books.
This year, Alphabet Soup is getting a head start on its book collecting. It will be collecting mainly crèche and children books this year, but textbooks, autobiographies, fiction, non-fiction, history books, educational books, coffee table books and any books that you may have which you are no longer using are welcome.
Books can be dropped off at the company’s offices, 85 6th Street Parkhurst, Johannesburg, where students, who need to do their community service, will sort the books. For more information, call +27 (0)11 880 8655.
