Another Raphaely at the helm of Associated Magazines

Julia Raphaely is the new managing director of Associated Magazines, with immediate effect. Formerly business director, she will be responsible for the day-to-day business management of Associated Magazines. Jane Raphaely will stay on as chairperson and Vanessa Raphaely will continue as editorial director.

"We are passionate about magazines and are confident that Julia's passion for this business will ensure the company's ongoing growth," says Jane Raphaely on behalf of the board of directors of Associated Magazines.

"Julia has demonstrated her skill as a keen businesswoman over the last couple of years. Her drive to grow Associated Magazines' prominent position in the female glossy market has been rewarded by a stronger hold on all business-related decisions in the company. With Vanessa as editorial director, she has already proved very effective in positioning Associated Magazines as South Africa's female magazine powerhouse."

Julia joined Associated Magazines as public relations and corporate development manager in 1993, gaining experience through a variety of positions, including stints as associate publisher of the group, publisher of O, The Oprah Magazine SA and managing editor of Femina.

Julia completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Cape Town in 1987, after which she studied at the AAA School of Advertising, graduating with honours from the latter. She also holds a Masters degree in Interactive Telecommunication from the University of New York.
