The Ellies Decorex 2012 stand was judged on the types of material used, and had to align with the three pillars of Decorex 2012 - reduce, re-use and recycle. The display was cleverly built as a modular re-usable unit all from green materials.

Launch of Green Stores

The accolade aptly comes as ERE successfully launched their Green Store-within-a-store into 27 Builders Warehouse stores and 24 Builders Express stores across South Africa. A similiar retail design has been used as the concept used at Decorex. The store within a store concept, which began roll-out in September 2011, has allowed South Africans easy access to expert advice as well as a variety of energy efficient products in one environment. The Green Stores are aimed at educating the consumer as well as finding tailor made energy solutions.

The success of the new stores, and the Decorex award have stood testament to the quality and variety of the green product range, clearly setting ERE ahead of its competition. The Ellies green consciousness as a brand is also strongly present, with the brand being more than just electrical and television reception solutions, but proving itself to be a strong contender in the energy saving and green fields. The Green Stores have set new retail trends within the South African consumer base, and are customised to suit South Africa's unique energy needs.

Empowering consumers

"The Green Store concept supports one of our corporate accountability priorities, which is ensuring sustainable supply and consumerism. We want to empower consumers to make responsible choices more frequently and thus we are tirelessly working to increase the number of green products within our product ranges to make this a reality," says Zandile Manana, marketing executive of Mass Build.

Products available include energy and water efficient shower heads and flow regulators, LED light bulbs, energy-efficient fluorescent tubes and solar power products. ERE also offers an energy audit, allowing home and business owners an in-depth assessment of energy usage and allowing customised energy saving solutions. New innovations include easy and simple photovoltaic/solar panel kits which are installed using a voucher system thus avoiding any hassles or frustration to the consumer.
