PR & Communications Interview South Africa

What went into The Lime Envelope brand refresh?

If you thought the hard work was over once you'd done your initial brand website development, think again. The Lime Envelope's agency director Sarah Martin tells us why it's important to refresh your branding every so often...

It's all fair and well designing and implementing a website for your business - in fact, it's expected, in today's online world. But those who create a website and leave it to gather digital dust balls are in for a surprise. If it's not constantly refreshed, clients who visit the site will think you're behind the times.

What went into The Lime Envelope brand refresh?

As your company grows and evolves over the years, you need to ensure this is reflected in all communications with your customers. What better way than by ensuring your corporate identity and website reflect this? That's why Martin feels The Lime Envelope's recent logo refresh was necessary - "It reflects who we are today and symbolises our dynamic future," she explains.

Here's what went into the brand refresh...

1. Firstly, why the need for a 'crisp new look'?

Martin: With technology and creative changing and advancing every day, brands need to change too to keep abreast of developments. People are bombarded with visual messaging on a daily basis by big brands and this goes some way to set the current standard for consumers and businesses in terms of what is perceived as new and fresh. I have to say that sometimes as communications professionals, PR people neglect their own platforms and content and the look becomes outdated. It was time for an evolution and also the introduction of an easy-to-administer site that is also easier for our team to update themselves, quickly and daily, if necessary.

2. Tell us more about the redesign process - what went into it, who was involved, how long did it take?

Martin: The redesign was done by our designer and web developer at SlickStudio. After they requested our logo for a project they were working on, they took the liberty of surprising us with a 'gift' of a logo re-design and update and what they thought was a push in the right direction.

They felt the original concept of the logo and brand had great value to it but that it needed a facelift - bringing more simplicity and cohesion of brand elements to the table. We loved the new logo and decided to implement changes across the board, and so we embraced the change and embarked on the journey to upgrade our website as well with the new look and feel. The task at hand wasn't as daunting as we originally thought. We had all the content and the back bone of what we needed, so we worked hand-in-hand with the SlickStudio team to achieve a final product that we believe delivers and looks amazing at the same time. All in all, the project only took three weeks to complete.

3. That's impressive. How do new clients typically get hold of you? Does Google search play a role?

Martin: A lot of our business is word of mouth, but social media and online platforms are playing a bigger role for us every day.

4. What has response about the redesign been like so far?

Martin: It has been positively received with people noticing and commenting before we even 'made it public'!

5. That's great. What's the intended outcome of the redesign?

Martin: To demonstrate our current and up-to-date approach to what we do and what we deliver for clients and to highlight our core values and dedication to our clients' businesses.

Certainly makes sense - perhaps it's time to rethink your own website design. For more on The Lime Envelope, visit their refreshed website or follow them on Twitter.
