Roman's rules

The end of last year saw Roman's Pizza open its 111th store and garner recognition at the 2009 Orange Index Service Awards in the fast food category and second place in the Sunday Times Top Brands 2009 pizza category after making its fast food category debut in 2008 in sixth place.

John Nicolakakis, MD of Roman's Pizza says that the group's exponential growth is underpinned by its value driven approach. “Today's consumer demands quality and simultaneously expects an unbeatable value proposition. Our business, found on affordable quality, has resonated with consumer desire; particularly during challenging economic times where wallets are more lightweight.” He says that this, combined with a bottom line service ethic, contributed significantly to the brand's success.

“While awards are a great feather in our cap, I believe you are only as good as the last pizza you serve,” says Nicolakakis. It is this philosophy that sees him regularly behind the counter, serving customers. “The convenience food market is highly competitive and today one cannot afford to take custom for granted. Value does not lie simply in a price; it is highly dependent on contributing factors such as quality and service. Value equation variables depend on delivery of all aspects in building a successful retail business.”
