Yusuf Karodia
Professor Yusuf Karodia is a founder of Mancosa and Regent Business School, and serves as a board member of Honoris United Universities.
Professor Yusuf Karodia started his career in 1973 as a secondary school teacher. In 1988, he joined the University of KwaZulu-Natal at Westville as a lecturer in Educational Management and Comparative Education. After completing his Master of Education Degree at the University of South Africa, he spent 6 months at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom as a Research Fellow on a British Council scholarship. During this time, he visited various British Universities including a 1-month research stint at the University of London. In 1990, Yusuf Karodia was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship and the Education Opportunities Council Faculty Fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He spent 6 months in Chicago conducting research on his doctoral programme, which examined management issues pertaining to non-governmental organisations. He has also been instrumental in forging an ongoing academic relationship with the Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management (NSUEM) in Russia. In 1992, he was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the University of Pretoria. Professor Karodia has attended both national and international conferences and has also published on management issues. He was also the university representative on the National Education Crisis Committee (NECC) and worked closely with Professor Fathima Meer in establishing the Phambili School in central Durban. In the 1990's, Professor Karodia founded MANCOSA (Management College of Southern Africa) and REGENT Business School as the representatives of the Buckinghamshire University and the University of Bedfordshire in the UK. Both MANCOSA and REGENT Business School are proud members of Honoris United Universities, the first Pan-African private higher education network and are accredited by various regulatory authorities, both internationally and nationally, to award higher education programmes, including the Master's degree and today have an enrolment of more than 15 000 students with their flagship MBA programmes being offered throughout Africa. In South Africa, both institutions are accredited by The Council of Higher Education and registered with the National Department of Higher Education and Training. Professor Karodia is a highly recognised educationist, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who continues to serve the underprivileged and dispossessed amongst us.
