Karen Petersen is a director: SADC Group: Urban. She was previously development director at Tongaat Hulett Developments (THD), the land conversion and property arm of the listed agri-business and sugar conglomerate, Tongaat Hulett.
A former Capetonian, Karen studied at UCT and has a Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Studies, a Masters in City & Regional Planning, as well as an MBA. She is a professional town and regional planner, registered with several industry bodies.
Some of her key achievements include being the first woman appointed to the Tongaat Hulett Developments Board in 2013. She was the winner of the KZN WPN Professional of the Year (Corporate Category) in 2016, was appointed a director on the Florida Road Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) Board and is also a committee member of the KZN South African Planning Institute. She is currently a finalist in the 2018 Regional Business Woman's Association of the Year (Corporate Category).
