Reaffirmation of expo partnership

South African Tourism has re-awarded Kagiso Exhibitions and Events the tender for the provision of external exhibitions management for a further three-year period. Moeketsi Mosola, CEO of South African Tourism, says the contribution that Kagiso has made to the business from a financial and business point of view has been a major contributing factor.

South African Tourism's Indaba 2006 - widely regarded as Africa's leading travel trade exhibition - started on 6 May 2006 under Kagiso Exhibitions and Events' management. Indaba has grown in status, quality and diversity to become one of the industry's top three 'must visit' travel trade shows of its kind on the global calendar.

"We are happy with the partnership that is developing between the two organisations where Kagiso Exhibitions and Events has committed to undertaking some aspects of the management role on risk," says Mosola.

Jerry Mabena, CEO of Kagiso, is thrilled with the show of confidence. "The past three years have been about building a solid foundation, growing Brand South Africa in the tourism space, and creating platforms for South Africa to showcase itself to the world," he says. "The team has grown and developed the experience that will allow us to create new programs to the benefit of the entire tourism sector, and to our partner South African Tourism."

Mosola says with South Africa now being recognised as a leading tourist destination, it has become critical for the larger South African tourism industry to be fully aligned in its marketing efforts. "While we intend to continue focusing on the consumer and creating a demand for the destination, our new exhibition strategy also emphasises networking and industry workshops," he says.
