Interactive gay TV channel for SA

Wrapped magazine has launched a digital channel targeting the gay community, which will serve as an extension of the magazine's content. "Wrapped TV's test broadcast went live at the beginning of May and to date we have had very positive feedback on the channel," says Morne Ebersohn, publisher of Wrapped magazine.

Ebersohn explains how Wrapped TV has been styled on the popular YouTube platform. "The test broadcast, which is currently available to viewers, includes station identity spots and some of the best gay content which is available on YouTube. We realised that our target audience spends a lot of time on digital channels like YouTube and Facebook, so we decided that this is a great opportunity to extend the Wrapped offering."

Currently in the process of developing local content for Wrapped TV, viewers will be offered the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes at Wrapped fashion shoots. They are also busy producing interior decorating programs, a news program and much more, explains Ebersohn.

One of the best things about the new Wrapped TV channel will be the interactive nature - with readers encouraged to create their own shows on YouTube.

"Send us the link to your work and if we think that the content is suitable and of a high quality, we will include this on the Wrapped channel. At the moment we are not selling advertising space, but with time, we could include advertising and pay a commission to the shows which attract the highest audience," Ebersohn says.
