702, Joburg mayor to dialogue with residents

Talk Radio 702, together with the City of Johannesburg, will be dedicating a weekly one-hour feature to highlight the progress of the city's governance and give residents a platform to raise concerns about issues that affect their everyday lives.

The ‘Wishlist for a Reborn Joburg' will enable residents to interact with the city's executives and members of the mayoral committee, including mayor Amos Masondo, who will feature on the first show.

Listen and participate

Jenny Crwys-Williams will host the feature every Monday, 2pm – 3pm, over eight weeks. Listeners will be able to call into the show and participate in the discussions and bring issues that they feel need to be addressed to the council's attention.

“The idea came from something that the mayor of Johannesburg Amos Masondo once said when he spoke about the need for the rebirth of Johannesburg and the need to restore it to its former glory,” says Pheladi Gwangwa, Talk Radio 702 station manager.

“The feature, ‘Wishlist for a Reborn Joburg', will look into different facets of the city. The executives from different departments will look into issues such as: the city' vision for 2010, developments in Soweto, new tariffs and rates system, transport, traffic lights, by-law enforcement. These are some of the issues that affect people in their everyday lives,” says Gwangwa.

In line with mayoral priorities

A different feature will be selected every week in line with mayoral priorities and from within the portfolios of members of the mayoral committee.

“We don't want to just talk about problems; we also want to talk about developments happening in the city. This new feature is in line with Talk Radio 702's 2008 ongoing efforts to effect positive change in our community. Historically, the station has been associated with initiatives and projects aimed at uplifting the community – this is an extension of that commitment,” says Gwangwa.
