Do what you can for environment, school growth

This October, assist Collect-a-Can with the environment and help it beat its 2007 Guinness Book of Records achievement for collecting the most metal cans in one month. Schools recover cans to add to their funds but for schools that are privileged, why not take part in the competition and nominate a school less fortunate to receive the funds; it may encourage it to start a collection programme of its own.

These are two of the group's aims for this month and it's not just schools that can participate, this year it has opened up the competition to charitable institutions, such as old age homes and animal welfare societies.

Rodrick Resandt, branch manager of Collect-a-Can Cape and Namibia stresses that, "The primary mission is to reclaim as many cans as possible and to keep them out of our landfills. At this point, thanks to persistent effort and constantly raising awareness, Collect-a-Can is proud to quote a national recovery figure of 69%. We are passionate about the work we do in facilitating individuals and organisations in the quest to reclaim tin cans."
