IT Engineer

Position Overview

The IT Engineer will provide senior technical leadership across infrastructure, systems, and networking domains. Acting as the second-in-command within the infrastructure function, this role is responsible for ensuring operational resilience, business continuity, and scalable technology design.

The successful candidate will support the planning, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of on-premises and hybrid environments, with a strong focus on automation, security, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical authority for day-to-day infrastructure operations
• Lead major infrastructure initiatives, including design, deployment, and optimisation
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to infrastructure team members
• Act as deputy to the IT Manager when required
• Ensure stability and performance across networking, virtualisation, identity, storage, backup, and security platforms
• Design and implement scalable, resilient infrastructure architectures
• Develop and maintain standards, documentation, and operational processes
• Drive automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention
• Champion security best practices and support incident response management

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

• 4–8+ years’ experience in systems and infrastructure engineering
• Strong Windows Server and Active Directory expertise
• Linux administration experience
• Virtualisation platforms, particularly Proxmox
• Networking knowledge including VLANs, DNS, routing, VPN, RADIUS, and firewalls (pfSense/UniFi)
• Hybrid environment management (AAD Connect, Exchange Online)
• Backup and disaster recovery solutions (Proxmox Backup Server)
• Scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python)
• Email security platforms (Mimecast)
• VOIP systems (FreeSWITCH)
• CCTV and physical security systems
• Ticketing platforms (OTOBO)
• Microsoft SQL Server
• Remote support tools (ScreenConnect)

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
• Process-driven with excellent documentation standards
• Ability to mentor, guide, and lead within a collaborative team environment
