Job description

• Lecture and assess contact learning and distance learning students in the in BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching) and BEd (Intermediate Phase Teaching) following modules: Teaching Home Language Afrikaans (THLA20), Afrikaans Home Language 1 (AHL100), Afrikaans First Additional Language 1 (AHL100) and  Literacy Afrikaans First Additional Language (LAA302)
• Perform the role and responsibilities of the module coordinator (MC).
• Compile teaching, learning, and assessment materials.
• Use a learning management system independently and/or work collaboratively to develop and deliver modules.
• Participate in relevant programmes, curriculum, and material development.
• Carry out allocated internal moderation responsibilities. Carry out invigilation of venue-based assessments as the Registrar’s Office reasonably requires.
• Participate in school-based Teaching Practice assessments.
• Provide academic support to students.
• Complete all Quality Assurance requirements related to the modules and programmes.
• Participate in research and community engagement projects.
• Ensure prompt and effective communication with students, colleagues, line managers, and other members of management.
• Ensure administrative efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with all policies and SOPs.
• Participate in and attend meetings and workshops.
• Fulfil functions on relevant committees, and in meetings and workshops as reasonably requested by management.
• Fulfill all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to the position and as requested by the relevant line manager

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor of Education Honours or equivalent qualification with relevant study in Afrikaans Home and First Additional Language

• At least 3 years of teaching and/or lecturing experience in Afrikaans Home Language and Afrikaans First Additional Language for the Foundation and Intermediate Phases.
• Excellent Afrikaans communication skills.
• Experience in curriculum and materials development.
• Experience in online and blended teaching and learning environments.

• Sound teaching and assessment skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational, time management, and coordination skills with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
• High level of computer proficiency with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online learning platforms.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to cope with change.
• Willingness to work when required on Saturdays.
