Cape Town TV is seeking a dynamic and versatile journalist with mid-level experience to join our vibrant news team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about storytelling and who is eager to contribute to a community-focused platform.

Cape Town Daily is a 26-minute, daily news bulletin including local news, features and events. This community-engaged news service relies on audience engagement to identify stories on the ground and includes a stringer network of remote contributors using mobile journalism techniques to capture, edit and produce stories using mobile devices.  

Key responsibilities:

 Create compelling news stories and features across multiple platforms (TV, online, social media).

• Generate story ideas for the daily news bulletin.
• Conduct interviews, research, and fact-check information for accurate reporting.
• Support a stringer network of remote contributors. 
• Write and edit news scripts for TV bulletins and digital. 
• Maintain a high standard of journalism ethics and practices.

Skills, qualifications and attributes:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Communications or Media Studies.
• Experience: 2-3 years of experience in journalism, preferably in a television or digital news environment.
• MOJO Expertise: Proficient in mobile journalism (video shooting, audio, and mobile editing software like Adobe Premiere or CapCut).
• Writing: Strong writing skills for both broadcast and digital platforms.
• Multimedia Skills: Ability to produce video, audio, and photo content independently using mobile devices. 
• Social Media Savvy: Understanding of social media tools, trends, and audience engagement strategies.
• Technical Skills: Use standard office tools (Word, Excel), familiarity with video editing software, and mobile news apps is an advantage.
• Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
• Attention to Detail: Strong research and fact-checking abilities to ensure accurate reporting.
• Flexible Schedule: Willingness to work weekends or after hours when necessary.
