Digital magazine editor

This role is for an organised, energetic editor to manage a digital magazine for a key retail client, overseeing editorial content, quality, and tone. The editor will shape the magazine’s direction, from creating compelling booklists and commissioning content to editing and ensuring a cohesive design that aligns with client objectives and reader needs.

Ideal candidate profile

The ideal candidate is:

• Self-motivated and solutions-oriented, with a strong sense of responsibility
• A natural leader with excellent editorial judgement and a good eye for storytelling
• Experienced, with three to five years in an editorial role in a magazine
• Skilled in editing, sub-editing, and maintaining high content standards

Key responsibilities

Editorial management

• Compile and present editorial booklists for each publication issue
• Produce editor videos for each issue
• Commission and edit features according to client expectations and briefs
• Ensure all writing, research, and copy-editing meet quality standards
• Oversee the design, ensuring layouts meet the client's brief
• Implement client feedback and changes, adhering to deadlines
• Report progress and updates to the account manager

Team management

• Lead and motivate the editorial team
• Ensure client revisions are accurately applied
• Provide final sign-off on approved pages and manage pagination
• Oversee and adhere to the editorial budget

Client relations

• Conduct bi-monthly client meetings (Cape Town-based)
• Participate in strategic planning to meet and adapt to client needs
• Take a proactive approach to managing client relationships
