Position summary: financial manager

With effect from January 2025, the financial manager will be responsible for all financial reporting, including cash flows, debtor’s reports, bank reconciliation, and budgets. The financial manager will report directly to the head of the school and the IES group CFO, working together to ensure the school runs profitably. This position has one direct report in the form of a financial assistant.

Criteria for success:

• Record and reconcile financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Manage and process vendor invoices and documentation.
• Manage payroll and reporting.
• Review vendor contracts and policies annually for accuracy and pricing.
• Maintain financial records and ensure records are up to date.
• Assist in the budgeting process by providing financial data and analysis.
• Perform additional ad hoc administrative responsibilities required by the head of the school.

Required qualifications:

• Four or more years of successful work experience in accounting.
• BCom degree in accounting or equivalent.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables (no VBA required).
• People management skills.
• Tech-savvy individual open to working with multiple or new software.
• SARS EMP201, VAT 201, and provisional tax calculation experience.
• Experience with multicurrency transactions (e.g., USD and EUR).
• Process-oriented with strong time management skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Preferred experience:

• Experience in the educational industry.
• Experience working on Ed-Admin, Sage Online, or Sage Payroll systems.
