Maziv announces R9bn digital infrastructure rollout, job creation plan

Maziv has pledged R9bn over the next five years to expand high-speed digital connectivity in South Africa at the sixth South Africa Investment Conference (SAIC 2026). The plan includes creating 10,000 direct and indirect jobs over seven years.

The announcement follows approval of Vodacom’s acquisition of a 30% stake in Maziv by the Competition Commission and Icasa.

Digital inclusion and social impact

“Maziv’s investment is about more than infrastructure; it’s about enabling more South Africans to participate in the digital economy,” said Maziv CEO Dietlof Maré.

The rollout will prioritise underserved and low-income areas. Every public or private school, clinic, and library passed by Maziv’s network will receive 1Gbps free, uncapped access.

Job creation and economic growth

The 10,000 job opportunities will include roles through SMME partners, installers, and community-based service providers, supporting technical skills development and small business growth.

“Through this investment, we are building the foundation for broader economic participation and expanding access to high-speed connectivity,” Maré said.

Maziv’s open-access model encourages competition among internet service providers, helping lower communication costs and expand consumer choice.
