JMC returns to SA with Vigus bakkie line-up

Manufacturing credibility and localisation capability

JMC is one of China’s established commercial vehicle manufacturers, backed by joint ventures with Ford and Isuzu. The company manufactures its own drivetrain, chassis and core components, supported by CNAS-certified labs and an Industrial Design Centre. Extensive durability testing includes heat, dust and full-track endurance trials for markets such as South Africa.

In 2024, JMC generated approximately R325bn in global revenue and employs 34,000 people worldwide.

New model line-up tailored to work and lifestyle use

The 2025 Vigus range offers two turbodiesel engine options.

Single Cab

• 2.4 Puma turbodiesel
• 103kW and 310Nm
• Five-speed manual gearbox
• Designed for load-hauling, agriculture and site work

Double Cab (4x2 and 4x4)

• 2.0 Puma turbodiesel
• 104kW and 350Nm
• Eight-speed automatic
• Designed for daily commuting, fleet use and lifestyle applications

Off-road capability is supported by an independent front suspension, high-strength chassis, and a braked towing capacity of up to 2,000kg. Load capacity is close to one ton on both body styles.

Practical features and model support

Depending on the derivative, features include a 9.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera, rear parking sensors and driver-focused cabin ergonomics.

Each Vigus model includes a five-year/100,000 km warranty, with a three-year/50,000 km service plan on Double Cabs and roadside assistance across the range.

Strategic distribution partnership

Salvador Caetano South Africa, which operates in 37 countries, says the partnership with JMC aligns with its strategy to offer reliable, scalable and future-ready mobility solutions.

The company aims to position the Vigus as an affordable, purpose-built option in the local bakkie segment, supported by a strengthened dealer network and improved aftersales support.
