In brief Automotive South Africa

Neo Serati Mofammere and Volvo collaborate on AI-inspired sustainable fashion

Local designer, Neo Serati Mofammere, collaborated with Volvo Car South Africa to create an autumn/winter 2024 ready-to-wear garment for Lasizwe Dambuza, using the interior fabric of Volvo's latest electric car and AI technology in the design process.

The car's interior features sustainable materials like renewable linseed fibre, recycled fishing nets, and upcycled denim, which Mofammere used to craft a unique and comfortable design that plays with gender roles.

Inspired by AI concepts of proportions, he cut and re-wove the tailored wool-blend fabric from Volvo, mirroring the car's recycled materials.

This project showcases the potential of transforming upcycled materials into high-fashion garments, blending luxury with responsible design.

Mofammere embraces innovation through AI, believing in learning from and creating with new technologies.
