Seifsa wage agreement challenged

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant has agreed to extend, to non-parties in the bargaining council, the wage agreement between employers and labour negotiated by the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargain Council according to an article published in Business Report.

The National Employers' Association of South Africa (Neasa) says it has not signed the wage agreement and says that it will take Oliphant to court if she insisted on imposing the wage agreement.

The wage settlement is 10%, as reached between the National Union of Metalworkers, four other unions and the Steeling and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa.

Neasa claims that it is a member of the bargaining council and represented 75% of employers in the industry.
