Situated near the town of Amanzimtoti alongside the Umsimbazi Lagoon, just 20 minutes from Durban and right on the beach, is particularly suited for family holidays as well as for business meetings and conferences. It is known for its sporting and recreational facilities and attractions, including golf, squash, swimming, deep-sea fishing and shark diving.
“Owing to the extensive refurbishment of the hotel, it will close from 2 May to 8 July 2016 so that no guests are inconvenienced during the redecoration process,” advises Danny Bryer, director of sales, marketing and revenue management of Protea Hotels. “The overhaul includes redoing the bathrooms, the installation of refurbished furniture and new carpets, installing new air-conditioners, putting in new carpeting, redoing the three suites completely, and a facelift for the restaurant, bar, reception area and the public toilets in the reception and conference area.”
Although the hotel will remain closed at the start of the mid-year school holidays, visitors to the area will still be able to enjoy its location and service towards the end of the break period. “The official relaunch date is 28 July, but rooms and other facilities will become available well in advance of that date, in a staggered rollout from the latter part of June,” Bryer adds.
The refurbishment further demonstrates the ongoing investment by the owners and Protea Hotels into the KwaZulu-Natal area. Durban’s upmarket Protea Hotel Edward recently completed the construction of new rooms, and the Protea Hotel Umhlanga has concluded an enlargement project.
