City Accommodation - about us

Are you looking for affordable overnight accommodation, for your next city-based business or leisure destination? Read on for great value and even better convenience.

Founded in 2013, City Accommodation offers you a family-friendly home away from home while on holiday or a business trip. Ideal for overnight or short-term stays, their affordable high-quality overnight accommodation is offered at establishments in Cape Town, South Africa and Windhoek, Namibia. What’s more, regular guests can join the City Accommodation Supporter’s Club and earn rewards, which they can redeem at the establishment of origin. City Accommodation currently consists of two establishments: Cape Town City Accommodation which operates in Cape Town, South Africa and Arebbusch Travel Lodge which operates in Windhoek, Namibia.

Cape Town City Accommodation offers apartments located in The Island Club at Century City (opposite one of the largest malls in Africa) and at The Quadrant in Claremont. These apartments are based in secure complexes complete with wi-fi, and are located close to shopping centres, medical facilities, business hubs and tourist attractions. Not only are the apartments serviced daily, but a 24-hour guest service is on hand to offer directions, assistance and tourist information.

Arebbusch Travel Lodge is set a short distance apart from the hustle and bustle of Windhoek’s central business district, as it was designed with more leisurely intentions in mind. But the Lodge is still just close enough so that, on winding up a business trip, a traveller could commence their Namibian holiday with family in this beautiful setting on the banks of the Arebbusch River. Guests can choose between luxury rooms, standard rooms and 2-6 self-catering units. Caravan and camping sites are also available, for those who are adamant to ‘take on the bush’ right from the get-go.

What to do

Your options are endless – the only problem you'll have is finding the time to fit it all in! In Cape Town, besides taking in the Mother City's rich cultural heritage, choose from a cable-car ride to the top of Table Mountain or a boat trip to Robben Island, visiting the spectacular winelands or the pristine beaches, glamorous shopping and dining at the V&A Waterfront or, for the more adventurous, shark-cage diving or paragliding. Many out-of-town visitors also flock here to attend live events, including international music concerts, comedy shows, food-and-wine expos and a range of top-notch performing arts showcases.

Windhoek is located close to Namibia's international airport and often serves, for this reason, as a first and last night in Namibia before tourists depart on game drives and for adventure sports that are offered in other centres. The capital city serves as the base for a number of companies operating in the country, including banks and insurance specialists. It is also the parliamentary and judicial seat of Namibia, meaning a great many business travellers fly in to meet with legal experts or to give their qualified opinions in court cases. The city's three large shopping malls and four private hospitals make Windhoek a regional hub for both the shop-till-you-droppers and those seeking expert medical care.

What to pack

Casual clothes are acceptable at most establishments – bring a couple of layers, though. And don't forget your walking shoes, a swimming costume, hat and sunscreen; no one likes to get burnt on holiday or during those few hours of downtime on a work trip.

Spring and summer run from around September to February, with autumn and winter stretching from March to August. Windhoek experiences summer rainstorms (so don't forget to pack an umbrella), while Cape Town can be pretty windy.

Other important items: an adaptor for your charger (South Africa and Namibia both use type-M plug points), your toiletries and medication (although, if needed, you're sure to find a pharmacy close by or in one of the malls) and that all-important bank card.

Future developments

The City Accommodation team bases its growth strategy on the demand of its clients, so flexibility and rapid adaptation to change are two of its central business principles. Expansion is scheduled to take place at their Island Club, Century City and The Quadrant, Claremont sites in Cape Town and, in additional cities, as finances and market focus allow… Watch this space!

The group's Supporter's Club will undoubtedly form a cornerstone of their popularity and, in time, members will be able to use their accumulated benefits at any branch of City Accommodation, regardless of where they originated.

The group's plan is to grow into as many cities globally as they can, particularly high-volume traveller cities that see a lot of to-and-fro traffic. Once in place, members will be able to seek out self-catering apartments from the City Accommodation chain, just as they may previously have done with a big hotel group that they favoured.

A clever duality

Cape Town and Windhoek offer City Accommodation an interesting duality as regards their peak and off-season periods. Cape Town acts as a major tourism hub in the summer months and, in winter when the weather turns cold and rainy, has more of a market for corporate visitors.

The opposite applies to Windhoek, which sees it's big companies close down from mid-December to mid-January when a mass exodus occurs to the coastal towns, versus an extremely busy winter season due to the high volume of incoming business travellers.
