Alberton City Shopping Centre gets a facelift

Alberton City Shopping Centre, situated in the Alberton CBD, is undergoing a R30 million refurbishment. The regional centre, which has served the local community for more than 25 years, was last refurbished in 2008.

Alberton City was previously co-owned by Growthpoint Properties and Liberty Group Properties until last year, when Growthpoint purchased the remaining 64% share from Liberty.

The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed by mid 2014 and will proceed in two phases. Work will begin in September at Entrance 5, where a new Jet store will be taking occupation. The Jet store will open for trade in December 2013. The refurbishment of the common mall area on the upper level, as well as the southern parking area, will form part of the project's first phase. The first phase is scheduled for completion in November 2013.

At the beginning of 2014, the second phase will focus on the lower level. The refurbishment will include tiling, painting, ceilings, bulkheads, lighting, balustrades, the relocation of escalators and stairs, new mall furniture, signage and an upgrade of Entrance 2 and 7.

The improved aesthetics and flow, along with exciting new brands, will serve to enhance the shopping experience for Alberton City's loyal customers. Furthermore, the revamp will serve to entrench the centre as a shopping destination of choice in the southeast quadrant of Johannesburg.
