President Zuma's delegation included International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

The summit considered the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Also discussed were the mediation efforts in Madagascar and the facilitation process in Zimbabwe.

The summit received a report by President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, the current chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), on the evolving situation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The meeting urged all SADC member states to contribute as a block towards the SADC Standby Force under auspices of the Neutral International Force (NIF).

The summit commended South Africa for pledging logistical support. It also received a report on the facilitation process in Zimbabwe. A mediator's report on Madagascar was received and the full implementation of the Roadmap was re-emphasised.

President Zuma said: "The Summit has reaffirmed the commitment of our region to collectively pursue regional peace and stability, particularly with regard to the security situation in the eastern DRC."
