Extra JHB date added to Shakey Graves's SA tour

An extra date has been added to Shakey Graves's upcoming tour of South Africa. The Texan Americana musician will perform a second show at the Barnyard Theatre in Rivonia, Johannesburg on 14 April 2020.

Many fans were left disappointed when Shakey Graves’s Joburg show on the 13 April sold out within two weeks of the announcement, so fans will be excited to know there’s another chance to see their favourite award-winning Americana musician live.

The show on 14 April will see Shakey Graves joined by local support acts Georgetown and Jacques Moolman (from Shadowclub).

Austin-based Shakey Graves first garnered attention with his one-man-band set up, which originated after he grew tired of having to borrow kick drums and high hats to perform. His solution consisted of a modified suitcase that functions as both a kick drum and a tambourine stand built by a close friend. Most of his 2011 self-released debut album Roll the Bones features him playing solo.

His unique style of performance led to him being asked to be the official ‘busker’ for the Edward Sharpe and Mumford & Sons Railroad Revival Tour in 2011, where he played music for patrons entering each venue.

By 2014, Graves had his trio band set up and made their TV debut on Conan, along with performances on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Graves won the Best Emerging Artist award at the 2015 Americana Music Awards and has since released two albums and an EP, including 2018’s Can’t Wake Up album.

Tickets are on sale now from the Barnyard Theatre website.
