kykNET Fiëstas to be held in Pretoria

The third annual kykNET Fiëstas, popularly referred to as the Oscars of Afrikaans theatre, will, for the first time, take place at the South African State Theatre, Pretoria on Thursday, 21 March 2013. The Fiëstas honours the best Afrikaans artists and productions that debuted at festivals countrywide in 2012.

The Fiëstas will be directed by South African theatre icon, Ian von Memerty.

"This year's kykNET Fiëstas will be an awards ceremony of note. With Ian von Memerty in the director's chair and the magnificent State Theatre as our venue, we are looking forward to an event that will pay a fitting homage to the country's outstanding Afrikaans productions and talent," said Karen Meiring, channel head of kykNET.

Lifetime Achievement Awards

Apart from paying tribute to those on the stage, the Fiëstas also celebrates the teams working behind the scenes. The Fiëstas will again present Lifetime Achievement Awards in different forms of art, such as music, theatre and literature.

Last year, famous South African soprano Mimi Coertze, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to music, while the productions Rooiland and Lot won seven awards, including best new Afrikaans production and best production, respectively.

The full list of Fiëstas nominees will be announced on kykNET at 7.30pm on 25 February.

Tickets to attend the kykNET Fiëstas will be available at Computicket. For more information, follow KykNET on Facebook.
