Land Rover's partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies forms part of an integrated approach to sustainability. IFRC is one of Land Rover's six Global Humanitarian & Conservation Partners, set within Land Rovers' sustainability framework called Our Planet.
In 2010, IFRC and Land Rover launched a three-year partnership entitled Reaching Vulnerable People Around The World. The global initiative provides support for 15 Red Cross and Red Crescent programmes. Utilising Land Rover's capable vehicles, the Red Cross is able to provide valuable support to communities in even the most remote location.
"Thanks to Land Rover's generosity, we have been able to use these vehicles during our disaster relief operations. Last year SARCS had to provide relief operations to communities affected by tornadoes that struck Limpopo, Free State and Gauteng. The vehicles allowed us to access remote areas that would have been hard to reach if it were not for these Land Rovers," said the SARCS acting secretary general, Winnie Ndebele.
"Land Rover's association with the International Federation of the Red Cross dates back to 1954, when Land Rover in the UK supplied a long-wheelbase Series 1 to the British Red Cross for use in Dubai as a mobile dispensary. We are pleased to support the Red Cross in their initiatives in South Africa and hope that by providing them with valuable 4x4 driving techniques they will be even better placed to aid those in need," said Kevin Flynn, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa.
