CSA condemns unauthorised advertisements

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday issued a statement strongly condemning unauthorised COPE advertisements that appeared on the perimeter of the playing field at the fourth MTN ODI between South Africa and Australia at Sahara Park St George's in Port Elizabeth.

CSA ordered the stopping of the advertisements soon after they first appeared.

CSA President, Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka, said in a statement issued during the match: "Cricket South Africa condemns in the strongest terms the unauthorised COPE advertisements that were displayed on the perimeter of the playing field during the fourth MTN ODI between South Africa and Australia.

"The display of these advertisements flies straight in the face of CSA's a-political policy which strictly forbids political advertisements at cricket matches under its auspices.

"No permission was sought, and certainly none given, for the display of these advertisements. Indeed, CSA refused permission after requests came from other grounds to display advertisements of this political nature.

"The decision to show these advertisements was a unilateral one by the host stadium and CSA immediately demanded the withdrawal of the advertisements when they first began to appear.

"CSA is to take up this matter up in the strongest terms at its disposal with its affiliate, the Eastern Province Amateur Cricket Board. We will continue with our zero tolerance of any form of political advertising at cricket matches in South Africa."
