Eat Out hosts dinner to stop hunger

Eat Out's editor, Abigail Donnelly, award-winning chef Reuben Riffel and Boschendal winemaker Lizelle Gerber are hosting a dinner at Reuben's at One&Only Cape Town on Thursday, 2 April, 2015, in aid of Stop Hunger Now Southern Africa. This is the first in a series of Eat Out events following the announcement of Eat Out's partnership with the hunger-eradication programme at the 2014 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards in November last year.

Stop Hunger Now SA was established in 2009 with the mission to end hunger in southern Africa. The organisation focuses on transformation through education and ensures that learners are fed, while at the same time holding learners, parents and educators accountable to achieve defined outcomes.

The Eat Out partnership launched in November with a consumer engagement mechanism on the Eat Out website. Every time a reader posts an online review on www.eatout.co.za a meal is pledged to Stop Hunger Now SA.

Holistic approach

Donnelly said: "Over 1700 meals have been pledged to date. Eat Out chose to partner Stop Hunger Now SA due to its holistic approach, particularly with respect to early childhood development. We're delighted that our audience has responded so positively."

A barometer on the Eat Out home page indicates the number of meals pledged for the current month. To encourage reviews, Eat Out is offering monthly prizes for the best review.

Saira Khan, CEO of Stop Hunger Now SA, said: "We are very excited about this partnership. In addition to Eat Out pledging meals for hungry children and youths, Stop Hunger Now SA appreciates the value of the unique interactive dining events Eat Out has planned, which further assist to support our objectives."

The first Eat Out dinner in aid of Stop Hunger Now SA will be held on Thursday, 2 April at 7pm for 7.30 pm at Reuben's at One &Only Cape Town. Tickets cost R995 per person, with proceeds going to Stop Hunger Now SA. There are only 30 places available. For more information and to reserve your seat, go to www.eatout.co.za
