Associated Magazines goes custom with BWA magazine

The first issue of the BWA magazine, under Jane Raphaely's editorship, features Maria Ramos in an intimate interview with Raphaely and aims to point the way for the future depth of the magazine. This title is the first custom publication from Associated Magazines.

"For a long time we sought to publish a magazine that was truly representative of our membership in all respects," says Basetsana Kumalo, president of the Businesswomen's Association (BWA). "The new magazine does just that as it delivers interesting content in a more comprehensive business lifestyle read. Associated Magazines' vast experience and unrivalled knowledge in creating inspirational consumer magazine for women will go a long way in taking the BWA magazine to a new level."

As Associated Magazines' first custom title, the magazine was unveiled at the Businesswomen's Association's annual Business Women of the Year event in early August in Johannesburg. The first issue will be distributed to all BWA members and subscribers to its other titles, Cosmopolitan, House and Leisure, Marie Claire and O, The Oprah Magazine.

The new-look magazine features regular profile interviews with leading South African and international businesswomen, financial advice, technology review, lifestyle focus and an intelligencer section with reviews and news on the latest restaurants, health trends, books and some beauty and fashion news.

Among the big names who are contributing to the magazine's first issue are highly respected finance journalist Ann Crotty, headhunter, Anne Pratt, City Press editor Ferial Haffajee and Ipeleng Mkhari, top businesswoman and Cosmopolitan Mover of the Year.

"This is a real magazine," says Jane Raphaely, editor of the BWA magazine. "It's still quite slim because these are early days, but because we have used the new magazine techniques that are revolutionising the way magazines deliver information, it is copy-rich and a highly rewarding read. Its new slogan, based on BWA - Born With Attitude - is what the magazine is all about; glamorous, gutsy, and great value."
