South Africans are invited to nominate ordinary individuals and organisations whom through excellence, creativity, social responsibility and patriotism have distinguished themselves as global brand ambassadors that South Africa can be proud of.
All nominees for the Ubuntu Awards should meet the broad criteria of: creating a favourable image for South Africa, engaging with and influencing the international public, making a sustainable and enduring impact, embodying the values of integrity, passion, patriotism and humility, as well as promoting African unity and diversity.
“The awards celebrate South African citizens who, through their integrity, passion, patriotism and humility, have raised the South African flag high on the international stage,” Dirco said on Wednesday, 16 November.
Nominations can be submitted online via www.ubuntuawards.co.za. The deadline for the nominations is 8 December 2016.
Dirco will host the awards on 11 February 2017 in Cape Town under the theme: “OR Tambo… in his footsteps”.
Previous award winners include the former South African chief of state protocol Ambassador Billy Modise and the late South African liberation struggle stalwart and diplomat Mme Ruth Mompati, the South African ace swimmer who is an Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games champion, Chad le Clos, and the internationally recognised and highly respected South African singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, humanitarian and teacher, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
