KWV, Nederburg glitter at Veritas

The 2012 Veritas awards were announced on Saturday 6 October 2012 in an award event that saw KWV, the 2011 champion, and Nederburg again prove the value of old brands. KWV won five double golds and seven golds for its wines and two double golds and a gold for its brandies and Nederburg won four double golds.

The other top achieving wine cellars in terms of the number of double gold and gold medals won, include: Jordan (3 double gold), Simonsig (2 double gold, 7 gold), Boplaas Family Vineyards (2 double gold, 3 gold), Cederberg Private Cellar (2 double gold, 2 gold), Windmeul (2 double gold, 2 gold) and Guardian Peak (2 double gold, 1 gold).

In the category for brandy, which drew 33 standard, vintage and pot still entries. The Van Ryn's 10-Year Old vintage brandy and the 15-Year Old potstill were double gold winners and the 12 and 20 Year Olds were gold medallists. Oude Meester, Klipdrift Gold and Flight of the Fish Eagle who each won one double gold award.

Sparkling winners

Pongrácz triumphed with a Double Gold medal, the highest accolade at the prestigious 2012 Veritas Awards for its flagship, Desiderius Pongrácz 2003. The House of J.C. Le Roux scored a sparkling victory with its prestige cuvee, Scintilla 2003, this year's Amorim Méthode Cap Classique Challenge winner, clinching a Gold medal.

This year there were 1711 wine entries.
