Jeans collection goes to welcome causes

Following its 'Get Rid Of your Jeans for Good' campaign run in Levi's stores during October 2010, the company was able to donate all wearable jeans to Kheth'Impilo and The Topsy Foundation, both of whom do commendable work in supporting communities affected by HIV/AIDS. 1 December, World Aids Day, was an ideal occasion to distribute the jeans to local communities.

Kheth'Impilo had teams on the ground in various centres across the regions. In the Western Cape, activities took place at Wallacedene Clinic, Bloekombos Community Hall and Mzamomhle Clinic, with educational talks and free HIV testing facilities. In Mpumalanga, jeans were distributed at seven sites, and in the Eastern Cape, jeans were handed out at Dimbaza clinic by CEO Dr Grimwood.

"It was wonderful and humbling to see the joy that receiving pair of jeans brought to the patients," said Levi Strauss marketing manager Candace Gilowey, who participated in activities at Wallacedene.

In the Gauteng region, the Topsy Foundation held its jeans donation at its central project site, the Topsy Sanctuary, where it has their clinic, skills training site and veggie gardens.
