"The Springboks can make history this year by becoming the only team to ever win the William Webb Ellis cup three times. Fans know this and they are keen to express their support for the team. With the Springbok Fans Unite 2011 campaign we give fans the opportunity to do this in a tangible way," says Sarah Mundy from SARU.

The campaign was launched with a bang in Fourways, Johannesburg, where SARU played host to media and guests, taking them through the campaign plan. The launch also included a sneak preview of the South African Rugby campaign song, written and performed by Goldfish and Freshlyground.

The Springboks also featured on early morning TV, broadcasting from Soweto where Springbok coach Peter de Villiers and a number of Springbok guests formed part of the morning show.

Radio interviews were scheduled with the Springbok coaches and management, various players and Springbok Supporters Club Ambassadors on 13 major national and regional radio stations, with jersey giveaways on a number of the radio stations.

"The main thrust of the Springbok Fans Unite 2011 campaign is to unite the nation behind the squad. With 50 million voices united behind 1 team, the Springboks can go all the way," said Grant Hillary, MD of 34 Sport.

Springbok fans can pledge their support online by visiting www.unite2011.co.za or going to www.facebook/springboks and liking the page. They'll instantly become a fan and have access to breaking news, player updates and exclusive competitions.

The Springbok Fans Unite 2011 Campaign is the culmination of 12 months of planning and preparation, ensuring that the Springbok team has all the support they need to take on the world as they defend their title as IRB Rugby World Cup champions.
