CANSA received R199,600 which was accumulated through the Cuppa for CANSA campaign at Road Lodge hotels around the country between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016. The City Lodge Hotel Group makes a donation to this cause every time a Road Lodge guest buys a cup of tea or coffee. Since 2003, a total of R1.77m has been donated by the group to CANSA through this ongoing campaign.

CANSA’s Munnik Marais said this year’s donation will go towards funding its 14 cancer care lodges around the country which assist people when they have first been diagnosed with cancer.

HPCA received R140,000 and Food & Trees received R91,000. These amounts which were accumulated through City Lodge Hotel group guests making online bookings on the group’s website between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016. Guests can choose to benefit either of these two organisations. The City Lodge Hotel Group then makes a donation on their behalf.

HPCA’s Zodwa Sithole said this year’s donation will go toward mentoring the organisations 146 member hospices around the country, helping them to audit patient files, and buying scales for weighing babies affected by tuberculosis.

Food & Trees’ Robyn Hills said this year’s donation will go towards supporting up to 50 community food gardeners in the Evaton area, south-west of Johannesburg. This will include providing them with seeds, teaching them to harvest their own seeds, and giving them seminars on soil health and nutrition.

Since 2012, the City Lodge Hotel Group has donated R694,285 to HPCA and R417,540 to Food & Trees on behalf of its guests who have made online bookings at its hotels.

The City Lodge Hotel Group has 54 hotels in South Africa, two in Kenya and one in Botswana. It is currently building three new hotels in Kenya, Tanzania and Namibia.
