Learn more about Northlink College

Founded in 2002, Northlink College is one of 50 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South African which is governed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The core function of TVETs is to provide education and training, that will alleviate unemployment and address the skills gaps that exist. The College offers courses in the post and pre-matric, occupational, part-time and distance learning course offerings to prepare students for the workplace or to become entrepreneurs.

The college is a thriving community of more than 750 staff members and an annual intake of more than 20,000 students. The college is fully accredited by the South Africa Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to offer more than 90 courses, certified qualifications and competent lecturers, won several awards over the years, and so much more.

Northlink is formed by seven campuses all geographically situated in the Northern suburbs. The day to day functioning takes on a more business-like approach in terms of its organisational structure and operations. The College is also known for its leadership, academic rigour, global experiential learning, increasing efforts to acquire technological resources to enhance operations and create access to affordable education and training services.

The most recent achievement was the opening of the college’s third centres of specialisation by DHET, namely, Bellville: Boilermaker, Wingfield: Fitter and Turner, Belhar: Electrician. This initiative aims to address the demand for priority trades needed for the implementation of the government’s National Development Plan in general and its National Infrastructure Plan more particularly; and to contribute towards the building of the capacity in the TVET college system. Therefore, the college is constantly engaging with industry employers to find opportunities for placement opportunities for graduates. The establishments of these partnerships forged with industry, schools, businesses have proven to be advantageous through the years.

Northlink College’s vision of striving to be the leader of education and training excellence reaches far beyond the classroom. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the institution to provide students with the highest level of educational experience. This, over the years, has become evident by the number of graduates who come from Northlink and enter the world of work.
