Factory Accountant

Cape Union Mart is seeking a factory accountant to manage financial and accounting operations in a manufacturing setting. This role involves financial analysis, reporting, compliance, and collaboration with production and warehouse teams to ensure efficient financial management. The successful candidate will contribute to improving manufacturing efficiency, profitability, and adherence to financial standards.

Key responsibilities

Financial management and reporting:
  • Compile and analyse financial information related to manufacturing operations.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Prepare income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements specific to the factory's financial activities.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to manufacturing costs, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Prepare annual budgets and monthly income statement forecasts.
Inventory management:
  • Coordinate and oversee regular stock takes to ensure accurate inventory valuation.
  • Analyse stock variances and investigate discrepancies in physical inventory counts.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to reconcile stock discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
  • Calculate and reconcile foreign shipments and stock in transit.
Tax compliance:
  • Calculate Value Added Tax (VAT) payable based on sales and purchases.
  • Prepare detailed VAT returns in compliance with local tax regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of monthly VAT returns.
  • Prepare tax schedules at year-end.
Audit and compliance:
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Gather and organise financial documents and respond to auditors' queries.
  • Prepare annual financial statements in line with regulatory standards.
Other key duties:
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions and retirements.
  • Prepare accruals and prepayment journal schedules.
  • Perform manual ad-hoc invoicing for the factory.
  • Reconcile all foreign accounts payable and payroll accounts to relevant systems.
  • Process receipts and payments not integrated into banking systems.
Experience requirements

Essential:
  • Financial degree in accounting, CIMA, or SAIPA.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a finance team.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Advantageous:
  • Background in manufacturing.
