Designer - Outdoor Apparel
The outdoor design team at Cape Union Mart Group is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and driven designer to produce designs for the K-Way brand, focusing on women’s, kids’, and youth outdoor apparel. The successful candidate will work closely with the buying team, K-Way factory, and overseas suppliers to oversee the end-to-end design process in a dynamic and fast-paced retail environment.
Key responsibilities:- Design outdoor apparel aligned with the product and range strategy for the portfolio.
- Source new fabrics and trims in line with international trends.
- Work with the K-Way factory to brief and update samples and styles for fit and seal.
- Travel internationally to brief samples and update styles with overseas suppliers.
- Create detailed design technical briefing packs, including measurements and relevant information.
- Design branding in accordance with product and brand principles.
- Develop seasonal colour palettes and match colours and trims to brand and range guidelines.
- Research local and international trends, delivering two seasonal design brief presentations.
- Provide key item and category trend forecasts.
- Compile and present core and seasonal colour and style flow boards.
- Collaborate with buyers and QA to ensure effective QA and production processes.
Requirements:Experience and qualifications:
- Matric with a relevant tertiary qualification.
- Experience in a similar role within a design environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is essential.
- Working knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop is advantageous.
- Understanding garment construction/manufacturing is a plus.
- Valid driver’s licence and owning a vehicle are advantageous due to regional travel requirements.
